East Kellogg Improvement Projects/Phases I & II
2007-2020, Wichita, KS

Vicki Scuri SiteWorks with Alexandr Polzin, WSP, MKEC Engineering Consultants Inc, and Kent Williams, Artist
Sponsored by KDOT & City of Wichita, KS

This project features a series of highway interchanges and roadway improvements over five miles of highway. It includes city entryway opportunities defining the City of Wichita from the county line to its east entry at Webb Road. The design features Wichita’s heritage inspired by flight, wind and prairie. The work involves interdisciplinary collaborations between artists, engineers and landscape architects. The first segment of the project bids in early 2013. It includes two gateway bridges with LED lighting, curved screening, and 400,000 sq.ft. of patterned retaining walls that carry wind and prairie motifs. Landscape is re-vegetated prairie with an emphasis on sustainability and rain harvesting.

Vicki Scuri Siteworks is the project lead for aesthetics, authoring the Urban Design and Public Art Master Plans for Projects I and II. The contract documents are fully executed by WSP and its sub-consultants.

“Very impressive! I’m usually not a big fan of some of the artwork incorporated into transportation projects... but the LED lights and the artwork on the MSE and soldier pile walls on the current projects definitely seem like a worthwhile investment.”
