CARY

Walker Street Extension: Green Street
2009-2010 (on hold), Cary, NC

Vicki Scuri SiteWorks with Alexandr Polzin, URS Corporation, and OBS Landscape Architects
Sponsored by Town of Cary

This project is designed as a green street emphasizing sustainable practices including swales and rain harvesting. It includes two gateway elements: a roundabout and a railroad bridge connecting the City Campus to the town of Cary. The gateway roundabout features an illuminated sculptural “wheel” planter inspired by the town’s railroad history. Other enhancements include custom wall patterning derived from historic pavers located at the nearby history museum, chimney inspired seating with mural backdrops derived from Cary’s history, railroad inspired fencing patterns, and a temporary sculpture garden sited along the pedestrian path to the town campus.
