GLENN MULDOON INTERCHANGE

2014-2018, Anchorage, AK

Vicki Scuri SiteWorks with DOWL
Project Prime DOWL
Sponsored by the Alaska Department of Transportation

The project features a divergent diamond interchange and a pedestrian trail, linking to a regional trail system. This interchange marks the northern entry to Anchorage along the Glenn Highway, at Muldoon Road. It includes specialty patterning for grills, towers, fencing, MSE Walls, tunnel walls, sound walls and barriers. Pattern design, inspired by the cow parsnip, a local native plant, is abstracted to suggest fish and native plant forms, which are interpreted in a variety of ways, through different materials and forms. The project includes LED lighting, programmed to mark seasons and holidays and twelve pedestrian-scaled light towers providing wayfinding along the trail.
