Kinston SmART Vision Plan
“Vicki worked with us on a vision plan for Kinston, a small town in eastern North Carolina. She made several visits to the community getting to know townspeople, civic leaders, and local officials. She spent hours exploring and photographing the area. She held public meetings and met one on one with key stakeholders, never tiring of presenting information and ideas and encouraging feedback and input. The plan she developed with the community is comprehensive, informative, responsive to input, reflective of Kinston’s unique assets and history, and filled with compelling images, drawings and ideas. Kinston loves it and just received an NEA Our Town grant to begin implementation.

“Vicki is a delight to work with. She’s thorough, fun and energetic, incredibly adaptable to any environment she's in, and her artwork is stunning and accessible to folks who have little knowledge of public art. She speaks the language of city planners and engineers, and she completely wowed our DOT, which commissioned her to design a bridge overpass in downtown Raleigh. I’ve learned so much from her and I look forward to continuing our work together.”

Arlington Boulevard Bridges, Arlington, VA
“Arlington County, Virginia, worked with Vicki to enhance Virginia's first DOT infrastructure project statewide, two overpasses along Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) near the County's government center. We knew we needed an artist thoroughly experienced in integrating artwork into infrastructure in order to be successful in this landmark effort. For ten years, Vicki patiently instructed all of us on how to accomplish our vision in her persistent, flexible and endlessly creative fashion. I have been consistently impressed with Vicki's ability to turn "no" around to "yes" and to adapt to a shifting set of parameters. I could not more highly recommend Vicki for her ability to envision and realize this complicated task of making infrastructure beautiful.”

“Vicki's passion and vision for creating public art that truly inspires and represents the community's spirit is nothing less than amazing! Vicki was extremely versatile in coming up with creative solutions to help meet the constructability and funding constraints. I highly recommend Vicki's talents for creating public art that will resonate with the community for a lifetime.”

“Vicki’s work celebrates the identity of the community through its infrastructure. She does her homework and brings unique aesthetic qualities that are reflective of local influences and local heritage to the urban environment. Vicki is a true professional collaborating with engineers and design professionals from project conception through construction. She has been a great asset and challenges the project team to think beyond the ordinary, inspiring solutions that are attractive yet integral to the urban infrastructure. Vicki’s contribution will provide a journey that is meaningful to the local community and that the traveling public will enjoy for years to come.”

“Very impressive! I’m usually not a big fan of some of the artwork incorporated into transportation projects... but the LED lights and the artwork on the MSE and soldier pile walls on the current projects definitely sees like a worthwhile investment.”
