NASHVILLE

28th-31st Ave. Connector Project Finalist Proposal
2011, Nashville, TN

Our primary goal is to create an engaging crossing for pedestrians, bicyclists, and people riding or driving across the bridge. The sun provides the play of light and shadow on the sidewalks, transforming the entire span into a rhythmic experience that parallels the action of music.  The arcs of ornamental leaf forms or musical notes create sweeping gestures that when moving at varying speeds express an evocative progression of patterning that symbolically connects the neighborhoods back to their musical roots of shared culture and place.

Nighttime illumination is recommended for future expansion of the project. A LED neon product competes well with ambient street lighting, adding drama, cadence and rhythmic gestures, by outlining the forms. It is easily maintained and has a projected lifespan of 50,000 hours, or approximately 15-years. Primary views are on the bridge, or from the north and south, as nearby areas redevelop.
